What would Columbus do?

This weekend wore me out and Sunday was supreme slug day. After a streaming episode of Pushing Daises, I went to sleep early. This morning, I was up with the darkness. I attempted my first day of groggy free writing and then shuffled to the gym. A shower and a warm bowl of Spinach Dal for breakfast (very low on groceries) and I’m not only ready for work, it's been a pro-duc-tive morning.

As NPR chats, I poke through late Friday email messages and find this.

Dear Staff,

Our office will be closed on Monday October 8, 2007 in observance of Columbus Day. Building services will be provided as usual but no delivery services will be accepted.

Also please observe all security precautions we sent in earlier communications.

Enjoy your long weekend.

Regards,

Important Office Man

Sigh. Oh, the crazy Sunday that I could have had. The roller skating parties that rolled by. The mountain climbing expeditions I passed up. The wonderful humans I will never meet.

Off to Trader Joes.

  • That describes me and almost every 3-day weekend at {your current employer here}. I almost never got my act together to remember when they showed up until too late to do anything planned and fun.

    In short: I hears ya.

  • Errands are almost fun. I picked up photos, did my homework, got food. I also sat outside to absorb the sun rays when they slapped the rain soaked sidewalk. Not winter just yet!
