Date with me
I wander a lot. Often alone. I go to coffee shops, libraries, restaurants, museums, stores. Sometimes I take photos, sometimes read, sometimes write, often just observe. When darkness hits, I get tripped up. Darkness is programmed as time for companionship and socializing. But what if I don’t feel like it? Or what if (gasp) I have no options? After working from home during the week, often I need to get out. Weekdays, I muddle through it without problem. The library is open till 8; coffee shops have productive people tapping away at their laptops.
Then it’s a Saturday night. The Bay City Rollers told me to do it all and have a ball. Does wearing your raincoat and backpack to Elliot Bay Bookstore for a reading count? I think yes, I say it was ball-like, more on that tomorrow. First, my short list of Saturday eve solo activities:
I would love an art space. A place with tables, supply lockers, a fridge and maybe low walls to give sense of creative privacy, but allow for human interaction. People could glue together. Happy Elmers.

- Elliot Bay Bookstore – independent book store with oodles of interesting talks.
- Summit Public House – neighborhood bar, with a wide bar and friendly tenders. Go on the early side.
- 24 Hour Fitness – everyone is working out. You blend with the machines.
- Quality Food Center (QFC) - groceries on a Saturday, lovely produce, no crowds. It's so not Safeway.

I love the names of Seattle bars. You've got your blatant (Sun Liquor) and your quaint cover-ups (Summit Public House). In DC, all the bars just sound like restaurants.

QFC was the only place I could find white american cheese in Portland. Shoot. now people will know that I buy american cheese.

Yes - that was me deleting my own comment. Typos of the speaking kind.
You really think the Big Hunt sounds like a restaurant? I suppose in Michigan maybe...
And don't worry. Your American cheese loving identity is safe with me. I wonder if the individually wrapped (in tons of unneeded plastic) cheese is different from the massive stacked slice block.
