Information
Have you ever been reading an intructional book had this urge to eat the book? It’s not eat – as in chew the pages – but this powerful desire to remember everything – and immediately. And if you read chapter and after chapter, you almost get full? The volume of information slowly collapses you and instead of inspiration, you are a puddle of why bother.
Yesterday, my sister and I were talking about the perils of purchased oriented solutions to creativity. Don’t have time to take photographs, too busy with the next strategic planning meeting or creature rendering – buy a book! The books we have both purchased about photography, filmmaking, writing, cooking, and other ‘ings’ – lob spitballs at us from the shelves. Maybe they were opened, maybe even finished, but if we didn’t apply what we learned, it’s dust.
In classes you read a chapter or two at a time, have discussions, do homework and visit office hours if needed. It’s digestible - the brain expands, contracts, applies, and sorts needed information from excess. If you just read, read and research, it’s like eating without digestion or waste removal. The vitamins and minerals are useless, you end up with scurvy and well, you feel kinda bloated.
