Fax Thief!

A big blue box, with a green background is staring at me. It's positioned in the center of my monitor shouting:
"This computer is not authorized for use with the LCD display. Please use the Perfect Suite program to disable the Theft Deterrence Feature"
I have to put my windows at the bottom of the screen to see anything. I appeared after I tried to move my monitor, it turned off for a second, and now I have been called a thief.

I called View Sonic and they said it's a theft deterrance feature. Yeah, I got that, but I never turned it on, nor can I see how it would be helpful. It's not like there is a little sticker in the monitor window saying this screen is protected by a computerized pitbull. To get it turned off, I have to fax in my proof of purchase.

"I don't have a fax."

"Well, it can only be turned off by faxing us your proof of purchase."

"Ok, it might take me a while to get to a fax. Can I email the receipt from Amazon?"

"Yes, but it will take longer."

Email will take longer then a fax? I am lost. After doing a PDF of the receipt to make it look official and emailing it with a string of numbers and ATTN codes, I thought wait - can I fax without a fax machine?

I am too tired to research this on the web, but if I have a phone number - can I send something from my computer to a fax machine?

  • Thanks!

And another testament to the wonder of the internet – I found instructions on doing a hard reset on my monitor. The box is now gone. It’s a good thing because View Sonic still hasn’t contacted me.

I posted a nasty gram on Amazon.
