Dig the hole, fill the hole
Leaf blowers are a ridiculous waste of energy. I don’t like them. Nope.
I was pulling up to park on my street and saw a maintenance guy. I think he works for one of the four houses on my street. He held up his hand signaling stop and began to blow the leaves from the spot I wanted to park. I waited and waited while he made little dead leaf piles. I gave up and parked somewhere else. On my way to the apartment, I walked by the freshly blown concrete and already the wind was dismantling his efforts.
Why? Really. What happened to rakes?

I had to use a blower while landscaping. Though I hated the smell of gas, the blaring sound, and the awkward handle, I have to say that I preferred it to raking. Raking one small yard is fun. Raking one large neighborhood or housing complex is back breaking.
Generally, we would blow the leaves into the street so that the street cleaner could pick it up before they blocked up the sewers and caused flooding. We would also blow them off the sidewalk to keep it "clean" so that people with varying mobility could maintain their stride.
It is also much easier to systematically blow leaves, regardless of how effective it seems, then racing to dig out a leaf covered sewer before the backup causes flooding in nearby buildings. I had to do that once and it was grueling, especially because it only happens during really heavy rain.

What about a reverse leaf blower, a vacuum? At least then it's just not shifting the problem.
For school landscaping and clearing sidewalks, I think I understand it. But when it's one house, blowing stuff off their yard or parking space into the street or their neighbors yard. Seems odd.
Yuck on the gutter. Have you done just about everything?
